A driftwood plank — ancient, salt-worn, carried by currents we will never know — becomes the foundation of a sacred mundane. A patchwork quilt, dried flora, the detritus of a life fully lived: these objects do not demand attention, and that is precisely what makes them holy. Joy is not always a grand arrival; sometimes it is a single rose in a glass bottle on a table that has drifted a thousand miles to be exactly here.
