Dancing to the Maddens in Me

I am dancing to the method of the maddens in me. They are here in my hair, my eyes, my face, my smile — everything that you need in this world is already there to connect you to every person or every place you have ever been. And though I can live inside yesterday's pain, I can't live without it. My power is in my maddens and my colored contradictions. Everything I need to get over in this world is inside here, connecting me to everybody and everything that's ever been. Present day to me has become exceptionally hard to want to smile. The masks during the pandemic just enhance the separation of the ethnicities. Instead of me walking into a store initially I was told I looked like a robber. I believe that when hatred celebrated is shown and embraced within a civilized environment it makes others feel small. Unfortunately when it is promoted by the highest figure others fall in line. Now add that to the blatant indifference and excuses instead and that is where it can flourish. This is the moment when we as people can grow and we did, apart. We resolved nothing and I maybe like others feel an open sore that is festering and running like raisin in the sun. That is why I create this exhibition on examples of what I have done to find peace, by using my creativity as my shield. For one month I sat for an hour and I focused on positive things first — things that made me happy. And I only focused on each one until they were completed. And I learned several things. All joy is different. The joy I have designing is the same feeling as the joy I have laughing with friends. So they are not going to affect me the same way and that is why the pictures looked different. I also noticed that a sanctuary was created and a guardian was created to guard over those revived feelings I had lost. I learned that you can have joy in your heart while you still are not feeling totally peaceful and that is ok.
