Faerie wings are how faeries fly, but they are not born with them, and they have a mind of their own. The simplest way to understand them is to think of them as tamed wild horses that can see the gate open, but they never leave.
Nanita's faerie wings will never manifest in front of humans or other things without the Magix. That is why faeries are invisible in the human realm, because most humans are born without the Magix. Despite this, now that Alona is a beacon for Magix to find her, the faerie wings notice her as much as they notice anything enchanted. But their curiosity was evident as they tried to converse, and they do not communicate with just anyone. It is also critical to remember that they are the Wings of Nanita, her mother, and they never met for 16 years — so that should tell you how unimportant she was to them. They are only interested in Power.
Faerie wings are attracted to Magix and use it as a primary food source. In return, faeries benefit from insulation and conservation, and they are given ethical guidance, so faeries stay virtuous. They are always present, so don't try Magix alone. If it is damaged or unstable, it will blow up your home.
The scroll reads:
Seekers who keep their wits.
Will travel far on these journeys,
If they remember this.
Most Seekers say they know what to do,
Magix, ethics, only faerie wings can choose.
They amplify, insulate, are conductors too,
Don't mishandle, be ungrateful, or they will leave you.
They are always present, so don't try Magix alone.
If it is damaged or unstable, it will blow up your home.
The rest of scroll is wrapped.
Faeries don't let these wings learn to control you, or 10,000 years they will live your life and drain your Magix and survive off of you. Faeries, if you wait long enough, a young one will help get them off you.
The wings never leave. They see the gate open. They choose. This is what becoming means — the wings are the body you walk around in, the part of you that has a mind of its own, that sees the gate open, that never leaves. Becoming is not a departure. It is a staying. It is the wings that never leave, and through the staying, you change.
