Folding Colors into the 1950s — Adding Flavor to the American Recipe

This series was born from my profound appreciation of the beauty and resilience of women, set against the backdrop of the 1950s, an era predominantly portrayed in monochrome. I embarked on a creative journey to reimagine this era by infusing a diverse spectrum of individuals with vibrant colors. The 1950s were portrayed as a golden age — but golden for whom? By folding color into this era, I am adding flavor to the American recipe. The America that was served to the world was bland, monochrome, and exclusionary. I am reimagining what that decade could have looked like if all of us had been included in the frame.
