Believing in your ability to do good and taking the leap of faith to continue to do so, even though you're told there is a limit to your goodness, opens a greater capacity to give generously with love. Giving is its own reward.
This is not a lesson I learned. It is a road I walked. Every time someone told me there was a limit to what I could be — a limit to my goodness, a limit to my kindness, a limit to my worth — I took the leap anyway. And every time, the leap opened something greater. Not because I was special. Because I was willing.
Giving is its own reward. You do not give to receive. You give because the giving is the act. The giving is the road. The giving is the body you walk around in, changing from the inside out, and the change is so slow and so quiet that most people do not know they are walking it until they are already far down the road.
This is what I wrote for the children. But it is not just for the children. It is for every person who has been told there is a limit. It is for every person who has been told they can only go so far. It is for every person who stands before a wall — a bizarre, uncontrollable, strange wall — and wonders if they can change.
